Shutting Down

Image
Being a teenager is all about dealing with yourself. That's taking care, keeping calm, and being conscious of your own emotions. Every single day can be a struggle when it comes to interacting with other people, not taking things personally, and lingering on everything that goes on. You have to be smart, pick and choose and determine what knocks you out of your element. Most of the time you can't control what triggers you and takes you those all time lows. This is shutting down. You're probably wondering what this post is about and I'm about to let you know. It's been a rough week (as always, I shouldn't expect anything less) and at this point I'm just not having any of it. There comes a time when you just get shut down, when someone makes a remark, you see something, hear something, or experience something that completely catches you off guard, wakes your dreaming ass up, and shakes you until you're unbelievably sober. For me, it's the little th...

Chaos

Being a teenager is all about learning to deal with the chaos. These are just the facts of life, stuff happens, people get hurt, and things don't always go the way you plan. Things have a tendency to spiral out of control, happenings get blown out of proportion, and subsequently chaos ensues. It's a state of panic, fear, and uncontrollable stream of events. But when the dust has settled, the smoke clears, and you're alive and well - you'll know you've made it through. It's just utter chaos. Chaos can sometimes be a necessary evil. It's a part of life, while it may not always be wanted, it definitely does have it's place in the world. One of the few things I learned from chemistry last year (which was little, eff chem - that ish sucks) was things are better disorganized - that's the natural order (is that entropy, oh who knows - I'm not Bill Nye "the Science Guy"). When things take a sharp turn from the road you thought you were abou...

Tempest Tossed

Being a teenager is all about making it through the storm. There's times in college where life gets tough and it seems like all is lost, but fear not. Have some hope and let it be known that you can make it out. No matter what is thrown at you you'll be sure to make it out alive and well. Bounce on back, shake it off and get the dirt off your shoulders. This is tempest tossed. One of the most profound concepts about college I found hard to grapple with was the whole idea of strangers. It's a weird thing to I understand, not like that creepy random murder movie, but the fact that almost everyone you'll see on a day to day basis is someone you literally have no idea who that person it. The people you refer to with nicknames, that kid you happen to always see around campus, and that girlie you've been crushing on ever since you laid eyes on her the first day of classes last semester, all strangers. I would my biggest flaw would be my inexplicable ability to put my w...
