Benefit of the Doubt

Image
Being a teenager is all about looking for the best in people. It's about looking past the surface into something deeper. It's not that stereotypes are false, it's just that they don't tell the whole story. When you group people and write them off for what they look like, how they sound, and what you take them as, you miss out on the opportunity to possible meet an amazing person. It's crazy, people are never what they appear to be just like those weird car mirror messages. You've got to open minded, ready to be mind blown, and give people the benefit of the doubt. Let it be known that I won my election. I'm officially the next president of UVM's IRA (Inter-Residence Association). You all know I was called by the current president, Knight, and I was kind of worried because he said we needed to "talk." I ran unopposed but still, I was like holy hell (oxymoron) - something happened. He tells me I've got the position and I just flip out, y...

Party Politics

Image
Being a teenager is all about being up to date on what the haps in the world of poli-sci. I'm talking watching hours of the amazing network that is CSPAN with corrupt politicians, and complete with gavels and voting. Hell to the no, but it is important to be informed and knowledgeable about what's going on in our country. I like my news to be from ABC News with George Stefanopoulos, CNN or USA Today - they just keep it classy. For all the Joe the Plumbers, Sarah Palin fans, and Arnold Schwarzenegger lovers out there this one's for you. This is party politics, covering my campaign journey for an on campus presidency, and navigating a new friendship. Ticker tape, bull horns, and benefits galore activate ... now. President Oteng, or proteng (as my fraternity brothers like to refer to me as) - I most definitely like the sound of that. You know that organization, IRA, I'm always talking about? Well it's election time for executive board positions and I threw my plai...

Rush Hour

Image
Being a teenager is all about living life in the fast lane. Actually that's completely false, because if you all know me you know I can't stand driving (it's scary as hell) and that I always drive 5mph under the speed limit (everyone hates me). But teenagedom is really about being constantly on the go. It's a crazy thing to perpetually be on the move, heading to this meeting and this and pretentiously living by a calendar. I've actually reached that age. But other than being a speedy Gonzales (is that still a thing), it's about joining something bigger than yourself. This is Rush Hour (no Jackie Chan or Chris Tucker references necessary). Have you ever done something you never thought you would ever do? No, I'm not talking about killing someone and improperly disposing of the body, robbing a bank via teleportation (Jumper style), or eating blow fish. I'm talking about taking a chance and doing something completely outside of your comfort zone. For m...

Rock Your Body

Image
Being a teenager is all about being spontaneous, random and free to try new things. The weekends are your free time to do just about whatever you please but making the most your time is highly important. Like Amanda Bynes (how the great have fallen) getting a DUI, important. Connecting with new people, making acquaintances and converting them to friends, laughing so hard you can't breathe, and smiling until it hurts are the best parts of the weekend. It's time to sweat it on out, break it down, and rock your body. This was a completely different kind of weekend for me since the friends I usally hang out with Sam, Emily and Dzenan were all out of the state. Friday night I was a mess, with nothing to do I resorted to getting hooked on this old BravoTV show "NYC Prep" which is like a real life version of Gossip Girl - privileged kids in the Upper East/West Side of New York City doing what rich kids do best. Oh you know, just watched 4 episodes straight in one sitti...
