Youthful Life: X

The 20s are all about living it up. There is no time like the present and time is of the essence now more than ever. All of those cliché things that people tell you about living in the moment, being where you are, and enjoying yourself ... just so happen to be true. College is one of those unique places and times in your life where you have little to worry about other than yourself. Your responsibilities are limited and your possibilities are seemingly endless. These really might be the best years of your life. My journey during this senior of mine has been to figure out not only how to have fun or what my college experience has meat (because I'm annoyingly complicated and perpetually in this meta-state of self-reflection) but what I'll be doing when college is over. Newsflash, my graduation is only 106 days away. This year, this month, and even this week has been filled with some monumentally important advice from all the random people in my life. The 20s are all about keeping it real. College sometimes can be more like high school than you ever wanted it to be. People can still be petty, fake as hell, and fifty shades of shady. You never know what people are saying when your back's turned and it's hard to know when you're actually in good company. Sometimes it seems like everyone has their agenda and no intention of playing it straight with you seems to be on it. Well you've got two options, you keep it real or you keep your distance. Bish whet, get to stepping.  Like where are we, high school, or nah? I was under the impression we we supposed to be grown folk with some semblance of maturity and the social ineptitude to be genuine at all times. There's no use pretending to be someone your not, it will get you nowhere in this place. The 20s are all about knowing who you are. College is such a formative period in our developments not only in our studies and life pursuits but who we are as people. Who you are when you start is almost never anything like who are you when you finish. The thing about changing is that the process occurs unbeknownst to you who is undergoing the transformation. The rest of the world sees it clear as day but self-awareness is an acquired skill.  Everyone becomes a different version of themselves in college, who were you? Political animals - leggo.  Does your life ever seem to be mimicking TV shows in perfectly classical dramedy fashion? The 20s are all about hitting the hay. Quite possibly the most underrated thing we need to do as people is sleep. It's a glorious thing that we take for granted way too often. College sometimes can be the complete antithesis of getting a good night's sleep for so many reasons. When we don't get enough sleep it has the power to affect everything else we do for days to come. I'm telling the struggle is too damn real. Sometimes all you want is to knock up and let some z's fly. It's all these sleepless nights.  The toughest thing about being me is getting to be "normal" and by that I mean your average college student. Sometimes I just want to sit and talk to people about insignificant things like current topics we know nothing about, pop culture happenings, and what we want to be when we enter the real world.
