All Day, Everyday

Image
Being a teenager is all about making it through your weeks. It's about going through each and every day conscious of what you're both doing and saying. College teaches you to figure out who are and how you portray yourself, but at the end of each day asks you to reflect and look at yourself in the mirror. How do you get through it all? What does it all mean? Somehow we push on and do it - all day, everyday.  So this post, it's going to get real like soon - you just keep reading on. Let me start by talking about the chaos of being busy. It's absolutely freaking crazy. Why do we all choose this life of being constantly on the go? It's not healthy, it's not normal, and it's not helping. From classes, to clubs, to friends, and all the randomness in between, it's too much. What do we gain from it? What's the purpose of it all? Does it even matter? Ask yourself these questions and really think about them. I want you to sit and marinate on them like som...

Balancing Act

Image
Being  a teenager is all about managing your life. For me, being in college is like being in the center of a circus. Everyone and everything is flying by, there's people watching, and all eyes are on you. You're the main act, and eveyone's just waiting for you to impress them, or even better yet mess up. It's like walking the tightrope or high wire, with all these expectations and things that you do. Whether it be finding a balance between extracurricular committments and academics or sleeping verus social life - or my current favorite entertaining even the idea of joining the dating scene. It's a balancing act, and a tough act to follow - top that.   Pretending to be normal, and I mean actually pretending is like the weirdest thing for me about college. It seems like everyone knows me, and me not so much. Whenever my head starts to swell, I'm thankful for my roommate, Patrick, and suitemates, Jimmy and Joel, to keep me grounded. They keep me DTE (down to Ear...

Untouchable

Image
Being a teenager is all about feeling untouchable. Pause right there and look at that word, untouchable , what does that mean? It means impervious, unimpregnable (that has nothing to do with the "Pregnancy Pact" Lifetime movie) and unable to be harmed. As teens and especially us college students walk around thinking we can't be tamed (Miley Cyrus's mess of a haircut anyone?) and so many of us are under the impression that we're unbreakable. Sorry to burst your bubble, we're not untouchable. When you think you're untouchable, you're apt to do crazy, wild, and truthfully dangerous things. You've got to bring on down back to planet Earth (we may have the rover 'Curiousity' on Mars but that doesn't you can be in outer space) and calm yourself down. You're just as equal as everyone else, if not more equal (Animal Farm reference). As a teen and a human being, it's highly important to realize the necessity of vulnerability. Vulnera...

Meet the Roommate

Image
Being a teenager is all about progressing from your crazy ridiculous high school days, to your more grown up, and even more wild college years. Someone, somewhere once said, that college is supposed to be the best years of your life. I'll take his/her word for it. It's a time to start over, completely reinvent yourself (if you want to, there's no need to fix all this) and be whoever you want to be. College is a time that most people really are forced to grow up. Away from home and parents, washing your own stanky ass moldy laundry with last Tuesday's tuna casserole surprised stained in, paying for those unnecessarily thick and expensive death traps known as textbooks, and getting yourself tested when there's the fear that you might have contracted a sick nasty STD. One of  the first things you'll do on your college move in day is swallow your fear, wipe away the tears, crack open your dorm room door, plop down your box of random stuff and meet the roommate. ...
