Alone

Image
"Loneliness expresses the pain of being alone and solitude expresses  the glory of being alone." Paul Tillich Adulthood is lonely . And by lonely, I mean the mere act of being by yourself. There is a difference between loneliness and just being alone. There's inherent value assessment there. The former comes with negative implication, and the latter is nothing more than an ambiguous state of being. I think we are socially conditioned to want the company of others, to be in contact, and to communicate. I also think we rely too much on others to determine who we are instead of spending the time needed to decide for ourselves who we are, and even more so to not decide who we are in relation to others. It's only natural. We spend the majority of our lives surrounded by people whether with be family, friends, or community - then, suddenly, you're on your own. Seeing other people becomes a deliberate act instead of a mundane reality. We have to do things of our ...

Unknown

Truth - Life is full of ambiguity. Things never happen the way that we imagine them to. As much as we try and plan it all out, life always does it's own thing. More often than not, things tend to work out for the better, or at least gravitate towards some semblance of relative normalcy. That randomness that we all dread and strive to avoid though can be inevitable. Sometimes we have to embrace the haphazard nature of life, and just go with it. Doesn't make it any easier venturing into the unknown. "There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven't yet met." William Butler Yeats   One of the most dubiously exhilarating, and simultaneously most terrifying things in life is moving to a new place. There's new people and places to discover. Things to do, food to try, and connections to be made - the possibilities are endless. At the same time, you're absolutely all alone, fear can be truly debilitating, and doubt can settle in. It's this con...

And Away They Go

Being a teenager is all about the moments that change your life forever. Leaving for college is one of the most dramatic things you'll have to do in your youthful years. It's a time filled with not only ridiculous fear, and deep sadness but of fresh starts, and new beginnings. College is your time to finally leave home, become your own person and live your life the way you want to. No mother and father dearest to tell you how and when to do things, it's all up to you to manage every aspect of your life. Leaving home for the first time is more than daunting, it may seem impossible, but when the game of life forces you to move forward, the gunshot goes off and away they go. I'm not going to lie, saying goodybe to my family, specifically my sister was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my entire life. The fact that I seriously contemplated attending an in-state school just to be near her demonstrates how close we are. That girl is my everything, and the person...

On Your Own

Image
Being a teenager means eventually having to grow up and embark on the journey called life on your own. Today I went hard in the paint, a little bit ham, and whole lot of independent by making my way to Burlington, Vermont for my June Orientation. Let me tell you, it's been a long journey, but I safely made it. I hate airports, they're like a huge maze and when you have to take busses and trams to your terminal then you know you're in trouble. Like WTE, do you purposefully want me to get lost, and miss my flight? Uh uh, no thank you, I schooled those airports and beasted my way to campus. It's time to stop depending on mother and father for everything and get going out on your own. Independence is one of the many things that all teenagers need to learn. It starts with the little things but it grows more and more until you complete leave the shadow of your parents and your complete start your own life. Teenagedom means wanting to be on your own, doing things for yoursel...
