Pomp and Circumstance

Image
The 20s are all about moving on with your life. As every year comes to an end we have to say goodbye to some of the people in our lives for a variety of reasons. People go home, people graduate, people get jobs - people just MOVE. Commencement season is a tricky thing (every news feed you subscribe to is filled with nothing more than cap and gowns, cords and stoles) with an accompanying mixed bag of emotions. No matter where you are in your life or in your college experience, moving means something. It can be all fancied up or super plain and simple. Either way it comes with it's own pomp and circumstance. College graduation ceremonies are truly impressive feats. The fact that you've made it through this level of education is cause for celebration (it's a struggle and a half, let's be real) but the ceremony in and of itself must be like Kristin Chenoworth in 12 Men of Christmas (Lifetime movies had me like ...) in the finicky details to be coordinated. All the de...

Second Time Around

Image
Being a teenager is all about doing things differently. Second chances aren't always given so when you do get one it's imperative you make the most of it. Second semester has more than begun and the first impressions are being unveiled like the hulking mess that Leah Dunham's mess of a dress at the Gold Globes (she took hours to walk on stage with that cocoon of marooning nonsense). This time it's going to be different, but only if you take an active role in making it so. This is the second time around. Starting school after being away on winter break has got to be one of the hardest things you ever do as a teenager. Honestly, sitting at home, eating and sleeping - amongst doing a whole lot of nothing makes even thinking about going to class a mind-numbing concept. Well it happened and school is more than back on. For those of you who've already returned to campus and tackled those absolutely dreaded first few days of class, bra-freaking-vo (*claps pretentiously...

Coming Clean

Image
Being a teenager is all about self-evaluation. It's about reflection and analyzing yourself. Who else knows you and your motives better than you? Why did we do all the thing we did this semester? What happened to us? Where could we have done better, and where did we do really well? It's like those professor evals where you get revenge on your professor for trying to ruin your life, but the awkward part it - this time you've only got yourself to blame. Start coming clean. Coming clean means being real with yourself and everyone else around you about what's gone on. It's all about checking yourself and coming on clean. Watch the vlog entry here: Let me come clean about how I actually spent the last days of my sophomore fall semester at the University of Vermont. Monday morning started with the evil torture that was my organic chemistry final - let's just say, chem and I are never ever getting back together. I was such a mess afterwards, but off to the lit...

Brotherly Love

Image
Being a teenager is all about forming the unbreakable bonds of friendship. There's something about brotherhood that just makes it that much more real. It's about an indestructible connection to someone else. There's no barriers, nothing's off limits and you're not only real with yourself but another person. It's a rare find, but we all need some good old brotherly love. As one of many people who never thought they'd be joining a fraternity, it's hands down been the best decision I made in my college career. Honestly, it's the most solid community you can join at your college or university, but only if you put yourself into it. The people who get the most out if the experience are the ones who gave their everything for their organization. That's the truth. Fraternity and sorority life isn't fit everyone but I'm telling you, if you've ever thought about becoming apart of something bigger than you and making lifelong friends (uhm - r...
