Delirium

Image
The 20s are all about knowing your limits. College can often be a place where people are disingenuous when it comes to valuing your health over productivity. Self-care is preached from the pulpit but in the pews it is nowhere to be found. Students, staff, and faculty alike are asked to bring their best selves but aren't given the time or are stigmatized for taking it. The atmosphere that a college creates may not always be what's sound for all its community members. Whether we like it or not - we all are susceptible to sickness, fatigue, and overall the shortcomings of being human - enter the state of delirium.   People do a lip-service when it comes to self-care. Yes, it's all well and good to say whenever you're tired or can't do anymore to take time to take care of yourself. The action or good-will behind it when it is put to practice leaves much to be desired. When those who are indispensable are fully incapacitated it's as if those around them are incap...

Sleepless Nights

The 20s are all about hitting the hay. Quite possibly the most underrated thing we need to do as people is sleep. It's a glorious thing that we take for granted way too often. College sometimes can be the complete antithesis of getting a good night's sleep for so many reasons. When we don't get enough sleep it has the power to affect everything else we do for days to come. I'm telling the struggle is too damn real. Sometimes all you want is to knock up and let some z's fly. It's all these sleepless nights.  The toughest thing about being me is getting to be "normal" and by that I mean your average college student. Sometimes I just want to sit and talk to people about insignificant things like current topics we know nothing about, pop culture happenings, and what we want to be when we enter the real world. I want to have a snowball fight, drink straight from a soda dispenser nozzle, ride the bus around aimlessly, shoot prank vines in the student cen...

Average Joe

Image
The 20s are all about self evaluation. It's about taking a look in the mirror and coming to terms with who are. The facts of each and every one of our lives are different. Your life story can only be narrated by one voice, and that is your own. The baby boomer generation has told us we're special. We've been coddled and cared for. But what if we're just another average Joe? My facebook newsfeed lately has been covered in shared links (usually useless buzzfeed articles of gifs that perfectly coincide with a specific instance in someone's life) and most notably the "Why are Gen Y Yuppies are Unhappy." I read the article and it kind of infuriated me but then I reread and it really started to think about my life. I read the rebuttal article that kind of demolished the original but who cares (the journalist in me does ... way too much), the idea that I am nothing more than what your average careless, irresponsible, and frankly, apathetic student is a little...

Deprivation State

Image
Being a teenager is all about getting your priorities straight. A wise man once said, you make time what you feel is important. If you say you're busy that could mean that you're swamped like a bog in the bayou or that you honestly don't care enough to make time for what's being asked of you. A lot of times we say that other things are more important and that we cannot give our precious time to anything else. If it matters to you, you'll find the time and motivation to do something about it - just don't patronize others for feeling the same thing for a differ. I'm lacking in the sleep department, and need to make it my top item on my list of things to do - no more deprivation state).   You all know that I do the absolute utmost on a daily basis. I really should probably dial it down and get my life together before I just keel over and pass out ... permanently, but like Caesar (the great leader, not the salad) I'm way too ambitious to ever slow down....

Voyage

Image
Being a teenager is all about sojourning. Every day of college is a complete journey. From the time of the sun comes up and you get out of bed too when you finally get to lay down in bed at night, it's an expedition. It's a chance to discover yourself and other people and really figure out where you're going in life. It's an opportunity to show the world what you're made of. It's up to you to captain your own ship and navigate the troubled waters. This is your maiden voyage. Every single day of college is an uphill battle. People come in and out of your life all day, every day. You have to create a map for yourself to know who to trust, and where to go. Some places are for bed in like secret caverns on a rare societies, as well as some people are off-limits. They can't be touched, they can't be known, and it's like to have a force field around them. It's like they have some kind of treasure, some kind of fortune, and only certain people have ...
