Something Great

Image
The 20s are all about taking a break from life. Finishing another year of school has this ambiguous feeling. You're happy you're done with having to work like a madman for a little bit but with separation means you're entire lifestyle changes for the summer. Some people get jobs, others find internships, and others still hang out, travel, or relax doing absolutely nothing. Each and everything has its merits and its flaws but summer is whatever you make of it. As long as you enjoy yourself and get what you need out of it, it's all up to you. Make it memorable, make it count, make it something great. Finally , after many a blog post I'm catching up with the digital retelling of my collegiate life with the real time of things when and how they happen. So let me bring you up to speed with the haps. Saturday was the definition of a lazy day that was long overdue and well deserved (I'm pretty sure everyone ever would agree). I slept until noon and it was oh so very...

Parental Control

Image
The 20s are all about coming into your own. As college students, and young adults the big point of this whole experience is (other than to get your education aka diploma and gain to access to higher levels of social capital) to grow up. There's a reason the age group is 18-25 for young adults, because we won't be fully developed and truly independent (in general) until then. Even more so, who will we become, especially if mom and dad have any say in it? Under parental control. The other day I heard this not-so far fetched theory that children either become two things, exactly like their parents, or completely opposite of who their parents are. You can probably easily guess which one I am. Then this theory mentioned siblings and how they're all just different combinations of your parents (genetically that's definitely true), but the personality, mannerisms, looks, etc. that make us who we are though. I sat and thought about my mom and dad (judge me or not but I have,...

Center of the Universe

Image
The 20s are all about self-care. Making sure you're doing okay is hands down the most important thing you have to do for yourself. You are your own person and you need to be good, fine, okay. You can't reach out and be of any help to anyone else if you're not all there. Take care of yourself. Take care of you. Take care.  Be selfish. Be self-centered. Be the center of the universe. Death ... it's so final. Once someone is gone, they can never come back. You're never able to speak to them, see them, touch them. Gone from your life and that's that. No matter how much your cry, moan, or beg - they can no longer be with you. Death supersedes everything. All the other problems and feelings we have in our lives become minuscule, insignificant and even unimportant when compared to death. The past few days have been some of the saddest of the semester. One of the people who I worked with, departmentally at least in residential life, died. I just stopped wrote that w...

Taking the Stage

Image
Being a teenager is all about being in the spotlight. It's about being the most memorable, and leaving your mark. What's the point of going through life or doing anything if no one is going to remember you for it? The ideals of being conceited, self-centered, or narcissistic always get a bad rep, but I'm here to argue against that. You've got to first take care of yourself and "get your life" (Tamar Braxton #catchphrase) before you can worry about anyone else. Almost ready to start taking the stage. Whoever came up with this idea that we're not the center of our own lives completely lied. Think about it, it only makes sense that we're the center of our own universe - who else do our own lives revolve around except ourselves? Think about this, every single TV show out there has a main cast for a reason. They can't tell everyone's story, and there has to be leads and then there's minor characters. Shows that takes place in high especial...

Confessions

Image
Being a teenager is all about letting go and moving on. It's so important to think and sit on your decisions and then to follow through and stick with them. You have to bring yourself to a consensus and then let it sit well with you. Let the truth be told and let it be the irrefutable facts of the matter. These are my confessions. Confessions - just using that word makes me immediately think of Usher in his old prime or when people admit their wrong-doings to a priest (as in Annie on 9O21O when she deflowered a celibate priest to be). This week for me was all about speaking the truth and having it be heard. There's this concept as a guy to be his manly type of alpha male like all the time (Like Derek on Teen Wolf or Oliver on Arrow) like Henry Cavill in immortals - kicking arse and taking names. But when you're none of those, you don't enjoy violence, obsess about cars and express your "feelings" you're seen as unmanly. To be frank, I think that's ...
