Truth Be Told

Image
Being a teenager is all about being honest. Honesty is one of those difficult things that people grapple with. It can be so easy to tell a lie, to hide what you're actually feeling, and to do everything possible to not address a problem. It's easier to hide behind a mask, to keep up appearances  and to shroud yourself in facade then to actually show yourself. "The truth always comes out, and it always hurts" (Joteng quotes) - truth be told. You can probably tell I've been super busy lately which I haven't posted in a little bit (this whole "college" thing might be way too much effort for my liking). Truth be told, I've been overcome with my work, classes, and all the intricacies of cinema the social construct of college (ewe I sound like I actually attend a university). That being said, this week has been one of those absolutely powerful ones. The kind of weeks that move you deeply and shake you to your core. This week has been all about hon...

Behind the Scenes

Image
Being a teenager is all about getting the full story. It's about discovering the real person inside the person. It's about getting past all the surface stuff. The fronts we put on, the superficial quirks we pretend to have, and the masks we put on to hide our true selves. College is the time to dig a little deeper, pry just a little bit more, and ask the questions that you've always wanted to. Smile your on candid camera, no wait - we're behind the scenes. Behind the scenes is all about learning. Learning about not only yourself but the people around you. It's about asking those questions that make people think, that force you to be frank with yourself, and that take everyone of out their comfort zones. Check this vlog extra for more on "going behind the scenes" with stories from my week, random dancing and a movie of  "the Perks of Being a Wallflower." Getting a sneak peek into the classically deranged world of my teenage life may or may...

Balancing Act

Image
Being  a teenager is all about managing your life. For me, being in college is like being in the center of a circus. Everyone and everything is flying by, there's people watching, and all eyes are on you. You're the main act, and eveyone's just waiting for you to impress them, or even better yet mess up. It's like walking the tightrope or high wire, with all these expectations and things that you do. Whether it be finding a balance between extracurricular committments and academics or sleeping verus social life - or my current favorite entertaining even the idea of joining the dating scene. It's a balancing act, and a tough act to follow - top that.   Pretending to be normal, and I mean actually pretending is like the weirdest thing for me about college. It seems like everyone knows me, and me not so much. Whenever my head starts to swell, I'm thankful for my roommate, Patrick, and suitemates, Jimmy and Joel, to keep me grounded. They keep me DTE (down to Ear...

Strength

Image
Being a teenager is all about being strong. I'm not talking strong in the sense of a body builder or Taylor Lautner style Twilight Saga abdominals. I'm referring to the kind of strength that takes real maturity. Strength in this sense is about being conscious, active, and aware of not only yourself but everyone else around you. It's about thinking before you speak, actively listening to someone other than yourself, and picking your battles carefully. Confrontation isn't always the answer, being strong enough to see that is. This is strength. Guess who's kind of a become a little bit of a YouTuber - this guy (*points to self with thumbs). Check out this vlog post all about being strong and aware of your strength in college. Video includes super sexy "hey's" with Joe, random dancing and post weekend faces outtakes. College for me takes so much strength. It takes courage, gumption, and an understanding that things will not always come out the way...

Campaign Trail

Image
Being a teenager is all about playing the politics of life. College is one of those places where politics always seem to be in the play. Things can get a little hazy when it becomes all about who you know, who knows of you, and who's heard of you. It's a struggle just to stay out of the political arena and just be you. There's a difference about being politically correct, and hypersensitivity. Let's be honest, everyday is another long hard day working to get people on your side - it's the campaign trail. It's been a crazy second part of the week for sure. Check out the "meaningful" part of this blog post in this vlog below. It tells the story of this week's presidential debate (aka Obama versus Romney on an international zinger competition) and the installation of University of Vermont's new president, E. Thomas Sullivan (guest appearances by VT Governor Shumlin, Senator Bernie Sanders, and former Vice President Walter Mondale - like whoa)....
