Selfie Season

Image
he 20s are all about loving yourself. Every single day we have interactions with other people that either build us up or tear us down. We don't seem to take the proper time to take care of ourselves and repair the harm down after the not-so uplifting instances. It can leave our reflections of ourselves severely distorted and ultimately broken. We deserve to be happy with who we are. We need to be so. We have to be that way or life becomes unbearable. You've got to learn who you are. It's selfie season, get ready. The latest trend to sweep the nation (aka the world cause apparently we Americans have no larger context #culturalracism) is the selfie. It's a simple thing, taking a picture of yourself. Who would have thought the simple act of photographing yourself would cause such a big uproar and completely shake up the social scene. You're behind on pop culture if you didn't see the epic star-studded selfie Ellen DeGeneres took at the Oscars which broke the...

Bish Whet

The 20s are all about keeping it real. College sometimes can be more like high school than you ever wanted it to be. People can still be petty, fake as hell, and fifty shades of shady. You never know what people are saying when your back's turned and it's hard to know when you're actually in good company. Sometimes it seems like everyone has their agenda and no intention of playing it straight with you seems to be on it. Well you've got two options, you keep it real or you keep your distance. Bish whet, get to stepping.  Like where are we, high school, or nah? I was under the impression we we supposed to be grown folk with some semblance of maturity and the social ineptitude to be genuine at all times. There's no use pretending to be someone your not, it will get you nowhere in this place. You'd better be you because everyone else is taken. I don't know when it became a thing again to say one thing and mean another. Use your words people and tell it ho...

Build A Boy Workshop

Image
The 20s are all about challenging social norms. There's this unwritten narrative of how you're supposed to interact with someone you have interest in. It's like a Disney movie where characters spontaneously burst into synchronized song and dance without prior rehearsal (#HSM2). We beat around the bush. We play games. We follow rules that we had no part in making up and have no idea why they exist. What's a world without rules? Anarchy you say, well time to write some new courting rules. This is the build a boy workshop.  *This post is for all those out there with little to no game, because why play games when you're already a winner #damn.   Let me just start by saying there's no such thing as a perfect person. Who we come into contact with to even potentially  make moves with depends on mostly where we live. Our selection pool is greatly limited but still is pretty large when college becomes our new sample size. What makes a person attractive? I underst...

Must Be the Money

Image
The 20s are all about examining all the identities you hold. Identities help guide how a vast majority of our experiences go. People often see us and they assume either the best or worst of us based on which identities they think we hold. A lot of identities may appear to be visible but most preconceived notions of how someone presents an identity are based on stereotypes which do no one any good. People are more than stereotypes. It's not that stereotypes are always wrong, it's that they don't tell the whole story. Time to check some privilege, it must be the money. *This to everyone who believes the "pull yourself up by your boostraps" mentality. We've pulled ourselves up and yet you still won't walk with us #damn There have been so many times where I've written about race, color and racism in my life before and during my college years. The funny thing about it is every other identity I hold is dominant. Like literally every other one. I'm ...
