" Feelings or emotions are the universal language and are to be honored. They are the authentic expression of who you are at your deepest place." Judith Wright Communication, communication, commmunication - say what you need to say and put yourself out there. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to tell people how you feel - whether that be in general, about them, or something else. Feelings are meant to be shared. It's that connection that links one soul to another. It's a bond that that brings two people together. It's that communing that gets people to recognize the humanity of one another. Process through your stuff, whatever that means to you. If it's sorting through the past traumas and experiences that made you the way you are - do it. If it's rifling through the memories and items of yesteryear that remind you of an old flame - go ahead. If it is figuring out some semblance of the unsolvable enigma that is you - make it happen. Then...

Correspondence

Image
Truth - We live in a world of communication. To be human is to be in contact with other humans. That ease of communication ranges greatly though from one experience to another. Some people have access to resources, devices, and networks that make communicating nearly instantaneous. Others are limited in that respect. And yet somehow people convey what they need to across barriers of medium, language, ability, etc. Conversations go on around us all the time, and sometimes they don't. The dialogues we're part of all depend on the context we find ourselves in. How do we regulate our correspondence? " Everybody is continuously connected to everybody else on Twitter, on Facebook, on Instagram, on Reddit, e-mailing, texting, faster and faster, with the flood of information jeopardizing meaning. Everybody's talking at once in a hypnotic, hyper din:  the cocktail party from hell." Maureen Dowd I remember in high school , back in the days when we had limits on ...

Fizzle

Image
Truth - Relationships can be fickle. One day things can be fast and loose; the next, things are radio silent. Sometimes it's that lightning strike of a connection that disappears just as quickly as it flashed in your life. Other times it's a blizzard that inundates you for days on end and yet slowly but surely dissipates into nothingness. The continuity between it all is that at some point that presence is not permanent - fleeting at best. What is it about the way people communicate now that allows for transience? Why do some people just fizzle out of our lives?   "O what is life, if we must hold it thus as wind-blown sparks hold momentary fire?" Ada Cambridge   Have you ever watched a sparkler burn itself out? There's that initial spark of blinding light, followed by sparks flying in all directions in the most simple and yet spectacular fashion, and soon enough what is left is a burnt carcass of something that used to literally/figuratively light us u...

House Rules

Image
Being a teenager is all about following the laws of the land. No matter where you are, there's a set of rules that you're obligated to follow. You enter someone's domain, you've got to adhere to the boundaries set in place. You may not always like what's been determined, but that's the way the world works. You're in our house now. Our house our rules. House rules >>> (if you don't understand the greater than sign - it's supposed to be read "over" - get with the times people). When you're at home, the house rules apply. That's the bottom line, like comprende holmes? If you're under your parents' roof, you'd better redneckognize (oh Honey Boo Boo, ain't nobody like you - BTW, the fact that TLC is using 1D LWWY in their New Year's bumpers with her in it disgusts me - that's child exploitation) and get your act together. If you thought you'd be running around at all ours of the day and night, gall...

Making Rounds

Image
Being a teenager is all about packing yourself up and heading off to college. It's a crazy time for everyone. If I said I wasn't going to miss my parents or brothers, I would be lying. The truth is, we all might look tough and be all loud and ready to move on to the big university, but really it won't hit us until people start leaving. Time is winding down, and soon everyone will be in school, doing their own things, making their new friends, and starting the next part of their lives. I'm sure all of you have a countdown to you move in day, but before that fabled day comes, you've got make sure you're on solid terms with everyone before chucking the deuces and heading off to the wasteland known as college. Get your mind right, and make those rounds.   If you're like me, you've got your multiple best friends, you've got your closest friends, your random friends, and then a shat ton of acquaintances. The way I see it, anyone you still want to be frie...
