#NoFilter

The 20s are all about realizing your personal importance. Self-esteem, self-image, and self-respect all have to come from you.  There is no one that can treat you better than can for yourself but recognizing that you need to do so can be an uphill battle. Sometimes it takes some prompting, reminders from others, and obnoxiously positive affirmations to let us know that we matter. It shouldn't have to come from someone else but it's okay if it does. You don't need anyone's permission to love yourself. Go team natural, let yourself be a little raw, and know you're imperfectly perfect. #NoFilter necessary.    " To be human is to sense and to be sensed." There is nothing more invalidating then sharing part of yourself and having your courage disregarded. In a world of barriers, disconnection, and aversion to contact, to give your memories to another is bold. Sharing our opinions face to face, from our lips to another's ears, with our unique voices bein...

Don't Wake Me Up

Image
Being a teenager is all about making bank when it comes to a deposit in your daily slumber. Summer is the best time to lay around, doze off and not be reprimanded for it. I'm urging you to sleep all you can and lallygag as long as possible. After college, there's no such thing as a summer vacation (unless you become a teacher) so it's best to live it up while you can. Let the music play, dim the lights, and post a sign - don't wake me up. First and foremost, for those of you who have been dying to know I am on twitter ( My Twitter Account) and instagram (@drjotengii) - so follow me there for even more teenage ridiculousness through witty tweets and photofiltered madness. Secondly , on the topic of the title of this post. Yes, this has to do with Chris Brown. His latest album, "Fortune" just dropped and it's definitely worth buying. He's an amazing singer, dancer and all around performer. I read so many reviews and all the authors would write abou...

The Day After

Image
Being a teenager is all about being thankful for what you've been given. The day after Christmas is one of those crazy days where you just stop and wonder, "did that even happen yesterday." It's mind blowing to realize that another year has gone by. It's a time for reflection and understanding that you have so many oppurtunities in your life that shouldn't be taken for granted. It's time crackdown on the bragging, the facebook status like-a-holics, and twitter fiends. This is the day after. This is the week of video blog, enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSxCGSJ-Ky8 My blog post question for the day is ... what's your New Year's Resolution? Making new friends outside of my residence hall and showing people even more of who I really am.

We See All

Image
Being a teenager is about being as popular as adolescently possible. Whoever said life wasn't a popular contest must not have been the center of attention, under the spotlight, or even remotely in the know. Teenagedom is at it's core first feeling comfortable with yourself, then sharing your personality and yourself with others. We all may pretend to not care about other people's opinions of us, but who are we kidding, we do give a damn. It's in our genetic code as cell phone wielding, twitter spamming, ice cream loving young people to want to be liked by everyone. Is it wrong for me to want for my self, uhm, hell no. College is no different, being liked by your peers may seem like less of a major deal, but that tendency is still there. If you're attending college, you're most likely in your class of 2015 University of Wherever's group - but be prepared, even digital first impressions can be unforgiving. We see all. So, if you're wondering where I got...

Check Yourself

Image
Being a teenager means that you value the respect you're given. If someone crosses the line, they're going to have to pay the price. It's not just teenage thing, everybody wants to get the dignity and reverance that they deserve. Nowadays, it seems that all common sense has gone out the window, and people have no problem blatantly disregarding you, and in short harshing your mellow. It's time to get things back in line, get it all together, and give us the respect we deserve. You'd better check yourself, before you wreck yourself. Kick it. Yesterday, I went out to eat with my mother, father, and sister to celebrate a milestone in our lives. It was one of my brother's birthdays, my mom's birthday, and it's been two years since my sister's surgery. After church we went on down to Maggiano's Little Italy for a high class lunch. I'm talking we went all out, got the valet parking for the car, and all that jazz. Things I can't stand, wheneve...

Fundamonium

Image
Being a teenager means that you're constantly online. Keeping up with the latest news, the coolest trends, and being in the know. As an adolescent teen, the better things in life are usually those that can make you laugh. As a college student, you can for sure appreciate the links to these great webseries. It's about time to hit that panic button and release the fundamonium. As teens, the Internet is where you go to find the answers to all your questions. WTE is a library or who actually asks for help anymore, just Google it and move on. On my quest to understand college life, I've been reading tons of blogs, twitter feeds, tumblr pages and of course hitting up YouTube for some video portrayals of walking to classes, and rooming with a total stranger. Last summer I discovered the insane funny webseries  Poor Paul (Season One) - it's about this awkward kid, with a creepy dad, who moves in a with a sex crazed roommate, and a snarky know it all roommate, oh and his ou...
