Rushing Back

Image
Being a teenager means that your summers are pretty much sacred. It’s the best time to get away from everyone, keep to yourself, and get yourself together before heading back to the most dreaded place on Earth, school. I don’t know about all of you, but whenever I see someone from school over the summer, it like knocks me out of the summer haze, like this is actually real life, and I’ll eventually be going back to school. It’s such a weird feeling, and you’re like obligated to give like a head nod, or the universal dap handshake. It’s just a ridiculous time, but it always gets me, and it all comes rushing back. Summer is one of the few times that you have the opportunity to completely get away from high school. It’s all about doing you, and hanging out with people that you want to. Summer is different because you’re not obligated to be around people you’d rather not associate with; it’s up to you to make plans and follow through with them. This past weekend I went to the annual h...

Wall to Wall

Being a teenagers means taking control and putting yourself in charge. For those of us who are heading either off to college for the first time as freshmen or making the return trip back to our university, we all know that dorm rooms are literally are home away from home. There's so many things you can do to make your dorm comfortable, but a reflection of yourself that you're proud to display. I'm not talking about beer bottles, last night's puke on the outside of the toilet seat, and ramen noodles everywhere, nor birth control pills, grungy bras, or sketchy reds covering the floor. I'm talking about having the dorm room of your dreams, making the most out of your space, and making all your floormates jealous that you've got it all covered from wall to wall. The biggest obstacle with dorm design is the lack of space. Most freshmen are in double rooms and your ever so gracious has provided you with a twin xl large bed, uncomfortable at best, a terrible chair,...

Splash Works

Being a teenager means summer is your time to let loose and get so freaking wild. It's a time to do stuff out of the ordinary, try new things and hang out. Summer includes tons of water, whether you're drinking it to hydrate in this blazing hot heatwave or messing around in the water trying too cool down. When you're wet, you'd best be getting butt nakey skin on skin drenched. It's time to get a whole lot of out of control and so some splash works.  Boating is most definitely not my thing. One of the things that were so true and made me laugh at orientation was the ALANA (minority group) has it's own outting club, just because people like me aren't really used to being outside all the time. Finally people understand me, it's called the house is air conditioned, I go outside to an air conditioned car - if I'm blazing it's only for a few minutes a day. It's not that I'm a homebody, black people just are not really thrill seekers. I'...

Better With the Lights Off

Being a teenager means that you can't always be picking, and you need to sometimes take what you can get. I'm talking with relationships, not everyone is going to want to date you, and so that means you can't be too stingy in who you allow in to date yourself. It can be a hard thing, you need to know when to settle and when to trade on up for someone better.  Better With the Lights Off is the newest collaboration hit from the New Boyz album Too Cool to Care and it features the one and only Chris Brown himself, the music video is literally so awesome. Turning out the lights, glowing in the dark and getting wild. But the lyrics of the song are the best part, is it true that some people really do look better with the lights off?   The grimiest line from the song is, "Every guys want to know what it's like to turn off the lights and turn Khloe to Kim" as in the Kardashians, such a low blow. As teenagers we've got tons of terms for people with not the steami...

Check Yourself

Being a teenager means that you value the respect you're given. If someone crosses the line, they're going to have to pay the price. It's not just teenage thing, everybody wants to get the dignity and reverance that they deserve. Nowadays, it seems that all common sense has gone out the window, and people have no problem blatantly disregarding you, and in short harshing your mellow. It's time to get things back in line, get it all together, and give us the respect we deserve. You'd better check yourself, before you wreck yourself. Kick it. Yesterday, I went out to eat with my mother, father, and sister to celebrate a milestone in our lives. It was one of my brother's birthdays, my mom's birthday, and it's been two years since my sister's surgery. After church we went on down to Maggiano's Little Italy for a high class lunch. I'm talking we went all out, got the valet parking for the car, and all that jazz. Things I can't stand, wheneve...
