Milestone

Being a teenager is all about celebrating your accomplishments. Life is hard, that's the plain and simple truth. When you achieve something, it's absolutely crucial for you to take take to recognize what you've done. Give yourself some credit where credit is due. Take a break, and look back at how far you've come. This post marks the 2 year birthday of this blog "the Youthful Life: Goes College" - woot woot. 2 years, 404 posts laters and all the drama, laughs and advice in between, I'm still writing for the world to read. Here's to my milestone.
 
*First of all, just want to say a massive (1D/TW style) thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read my teenage rantings. It means a lot to me. I love sharing my life with you, and hopefully you like reading about my daily happenings and get something out of it. Let me just say that this year has been one of the craziest ever. I've gone through so much and changed so much as a person. I've aged, matured, and come a little bit more into my own. This year was all about self analyzing and growth. I want to highlight some of my most personal posts, the July Skin Deep, Color of Friendship and True Colors posts where I discussed race, racism and my experiences with prejudice. This year had so many milestones as well with all my NEACURH/NACURH conference experiences, the summer Olympics, the tragic Aurora, CO shooting,  and the presidential election. Truth - Sometimes I seriously worry for my generation. Every generation certainly innovates in distinct ways but also not only inherits the problems of their predecessors but contributes/creates new ones as well. Awakening

Being a teenager is all about making your summer mean something. Summer isn't all about laying around, doing absolutely nothing and catching up on all the episodes and movies you missed out on during the school year. It's about doing something meaningful, finding something that challenges you and makes you think about who you are. Summer is the perfect time to do some soul searching like that Emma Roberts and Alex Pettyfer movie "Wild Child." It's time for the awakening. Since you've got all this free time, it's time to actually do something productive with it. People always ask what your major is, and what you want to do with it when you graduate - but they never ask why you're doing what you're doing. That's the most important part. Fraternally Yours

Being a teenager is all about putting yourself out there. I can person say the absolute worst thing is to have someone turn you down when you've done your best to get to know them.  The truth of the matter outs not everyone is going to like you or been click with root instantly. Friendship, fraternal brotherhood or otherwise is not some magical instantaneous thing, like freaking accidentally Instagram stalking, and double tapping the heart and trying to quickly undo before anyone notices. It's definitely an ongoing learning process for everyone. But until I see you again, fraternally yours.    Fraternity has so many different meanings and contexts depending on who you ask. Well for me, my fraternity is about brotherhood, service and democracy. That means taking people at face value, knowing they're worth it, and trusting them.
